[JDEV] authentication via login?

I'm trying to authenticate jabber users by using the
authentication from another server. In other words,
"server X" has a logon page (which I can edit if need be).
As soon as a Jabber receives a login, I'd like that same
authentication information to be "sent" to the "server X"
page for authentication. If "server X" accepts the user
and password, then jabber accepts the user.

Are there standard jabber protocols to do this? Is
this feasible?
