Here are some things I might use scripting for:
- On a subscription request event, automatically accept it, play a .wav
file, and send a greeting
- On a buddy on-line event, send a message with a custom XML tag if they are
using a certain client
- Create a bot that matches people up for games. For example, I would send
a message to mygamebot at jabber.org , and the bot would return JIDs of other
users who have registered with the bot and are currently on-line and
available for a game.
- Create news, stock quote, weather, etc. bots
mIRC, the popular IRC client for Windows, has thousands of bots written for
games, file sharing, etc... It's a very popular feature that helped IRC
take off.
