I might suggest looking at the openadaptor.org group. It has built plug-ins
for quite a few message queue systems, among other things.

Yes, definitely, this is a major interest.
My impression of MQ is that it is slow and values hop-by-hop reliability
over speed and throughput, writing messages to disk often. It probably
supports better modes now. This may be appropriate in some
circumstances, but not all.
An MQ API for Jabber would be interesting. Can you supply or point us
to an API reference?
BTW, I've also looked at JMS with similar complaints about throughput
and overhead.
