[JDEV] No sessions

I've been unable to get either 1.4pre1 or 2 to allow a standard Jabber
session to connect.  I use JabberIM and Jarl as clients; when I try to
connect to my server, they just hang waiting for a full authentication
(they're able to contact the jabberd, but they won't complete a session
connect).  There is no sessions.log file ... I get an error file that has no
message regarding connections, just daemon start/stop messages.

When I build 1.4, I don't have OpenSSL.  Could this be the problem?  I've
walked through the -D output, but there is no error message indicating why a
session won't begin.  All files are owned by the jabber UID.  I'm on RedHat
6.2.
