[JDEV] problem with spool directory

I just grabbed the latest 1.4pre1 from CVS. The install seemed to go
well, but I get an error on the 1 first client connection. It's seems that 
the spool directory for the server name that I've chosen doesn't get
created so user information can't get stored.

I've checked the file permissions, everything looks fine. I've also changed
the <spool/> location in the config file to an absolute path but that
doesn't help either.

Am I missing something? Has anyone else had this problem?
