[JDEV] Type of connection used for a jabber server

I disagree--I'd still consider your ISP to be at fault. Mail and web
surfing don't use persistent connections, so if your ISP choked for a few
seconds and killed your traffic, you wouldn't notice if you were surfing.
But if that happened while you were connected to jabber, the connection
would be severed and you'd clearly see it. I've noticed my cable connection
at home occasionally do things like that, and it's not just jabber that I've
seen it on--it happens with other persistent services like ssh and telnet.
Try verifying with other types of connections and/or connecting to other
jabber servers as well. If they all die at the same time, most likely your
ISP (or even a personal firewall???) is at fault.
