the JabberApplet.  You can readup on it at

Hi guys,
 
 I have a small problem at hand. I have to design and implement a Chat and
Instant Messaging software in Java. Can anyone suggest if its possible for
me to customize the Jabber protocol for this. The system has to be web based
and can have no client side installations.
