[JDEV] Relationship with .NET?

Doubtless it has come up b4, but don't fancy unzipping the "archives"...

I'm not a big follower of all things Microsoft (to my cost), but quite a few
of the "headlines" regarding Microsoft, XML. .NET and instant messaging seem
spookily similar to everything Jabber?

What's the deal here? Some one fill me in?
