[JDEV] Looking for info on writing transport

I'm trying to find information regarding how to write a transport for the
jabber server.  I am prototyping a gateway to some non-pc devices and am
evaluating transport vs. client (gateway) issues.  I've downloaded the
various projects dealing with transports, but am looking for some sort of
documentation.  Any help on where to find this would be greatly appreciated.
