[JDEV] newbie transport question

I have a client/server collaboration package in the works that I think
would fit beautifully into the jabber framework...there's just one snag:
I'm a Java developer, who doesn't really know C. Is this a problem if I
want to create a transport for this new server type?  If not, are there
some resources (preferably in Java) that I could look at to guide me?
