I've been bitten by this issue as well.  It seems the target audience for
the server is being made much smaller by nearsighted design decisions. :(
If you find a solution or workaround, please post to the list (or at
least to me privately).  Thanks in advance.

...so maybe there will be enough of us who need 1.0-based solutions that
we can fork support for that?  (Don't give up just yet, Bob; I almost did,
