[JDEV] Groupchat Transport

hey all... just tried installing the groupchat transport... After running "autoconf" to create the "configure" script, I did:

./configure && make && make install 

Unfortunately, I get the following error:

./configure: syntax error near unexpected token 'AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE(groupchat-transport,0.9pre4)'
./configure: ./configure: line 525: 'AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE(groupchat-transport,0.9pre4)'


... I haven't done a lot of open-source Linux development, so I'm a bit lost. Any suggestions??
