[JDEV] GroupChats in Jabber

I'm working on a system right now that needs to allow groups of users to
have private group chats.  I just started looking at Jabber.  I'm curious
if the Groupchat Transport for Jabber will allow this or will it be better
to use jabber and irc together.  I need the solution to be able to use some
sort of authentication to prevent people that don't belong to the group
from joining the chat.  Which method would be better for this the Groupchat
Transport or IRC, or neither?
