[JDEV] [Newbie] Setting up Jabber on RH 6.2 as a _private_ messaging system?

Hi,

We're looking for an instant messaging system for use in a closed network,
ie. we do NOT want this server to connect to external servers like
jabber.org. If this is not what Jabber is meant to do, please apologize the
interruption.

I did check the archives and saw the small thread that Patrick Quek started
a few days ago while he was unable to install Jabber on his Red Hat
server... no one came up with a solution yet, and I'm also stuck. Someone
mentioned a user.xml, but no trace of this in the source tarballs.

I read the few documents available on www.jabber.org and
www.jabbercentral.com, but haven't found a single document that clearly
says HOW to create user accounts, and I'm having the same problem as
Patrick: Winjab says "Attempting to Connect to 10.0.0.10... Disconnected
from Server! COMM ERROR: Could not establish Stream. Session Closed. (0)
Pausing 5 secs. before reconnect Attempt". Both hosts are on the same
network, and can PING each other OK.

What should I do after installing the RPMs and customizing the <names> section?

rpm -Uvh adns-0.7-1.i386.rpm
rpm -Uvh libxode-1.0-1.i386.rpm
rpm -Uvh libetherx-1.0-1.i386.rpm
rpm -Uvh libjabber-1.0-1.i386.rpm
rpm -Uvh jabber-transport-1.0-1.i386.rpm

<names>
	<default>radius.techno.ftci.net</default>
</names>

FWIW, with jserver -D, I get:
Tue Aug 22 18:10:05 2000  debug/xmlstream.c:101 head: <?xml
version='1.0'?><stream:stream
xmlns:stream='http://etherx.jabber.org/streams' id='39A2A5DD'
xmlns='jabber:client' from='radius.techno.ftci.net'>

=> Why does this daemon insist on connecting to etherx.jabber.org?

Any hint much appreciated
FF.
