Hi, this is my first post to the list, or any open dev
list for that matter. I'm replying to an old message
from the archives - it's old but it's important, I
think....

It seems to me there's a place for a MFC Windows
client and no doubt somebody will build one, but it's
not the only way. There is a port of GIMP to Windows
95/98/NT that runs on top of a GTK port. This port
runs directly on top of GDI - no MFC or anything else
except a Posix threads library. Light and tight.
Check it out at:

I downloaded the build (8 megs) and found it to be
impressively stable and useable, also *very* flashy.

I'd like to suggest that building on Windows with GTK
would be a whole lot more useful than building with
MFC, and a lot easier too, with more impressive
results. Plus you can use an open tool like GLADE for
interface building. Plus the interfaces are stored in
XML - kind of ties in, right?

Note that ICQ uses a distinctly un-MFC look, and that
didn't slow it down a bit in terms of getting lots of
users. Personally, I think GTK widgets are nicer for
the user than MFC widgets. It's all themeable too, so
if you want it to look like Windows, it will. Or
there could be an ICQ theme. It goes on & on...
