[JDEV] Nicknames

I have a question.

Is it possible(or happening) to require the need for a nickname? It would be
far easier on the clients(in my opinion) to have the user have the option of
entering a nickname....but if they don't, sending the server their username
as their nickname?

IMHO, it would be easier than having to do a conditional based on the
presence of a nickname or not....because either way, you are sending a
nickname - it's just the content of the nickname which changes. Is this a
feasible idea?
