Can't we do this already? Seems like I saw something like this in zABBER.
I'd like to get back to the guy, but I don't know a firm answer to give

I have something I'd like added to the feature list: the ability to work
behind a firewall; IOW allow Jabber to send data via HTTP requests, if
this is at all possible.
