Let me try to head off a potential mailing list flame war right here and
suggest that, as you know NT very well and Unix not-at-all, you're
probably better off using the win32 port.  I don't think you need to worry
about performance until we've got thousands of jabber users scattered
around, and you can always switch server OSes later without bothering your
clients at all. The big advantage with any Unix will be uptime and
reliability (it seems many of the core developers use unix-like OSes, so
it would be assumed that bugs affecting those system would be caught
first; and unix systems typically go for months-to-years between system
crashes).

Stick with what you know for the time being; on the other hand if you've
been itching to give linux a shot anyway by all means go for it.
