I would guess that the Java client would work fine on BeOS (assuming
Sun/Be actually does get around to porting the JDK like their press
releases say); the Mozilla client should also work when it's done, as the
Mozilla-on-BeOS project is well along. According to a quick web-search,
Perl and Tcl have been ported to BeOS, but Tk hasn't; the Perl/Tk and
Tcl/Tk clients will work just as soon as Tk is ported.
(see http://www.bespecific.com/dialog/becodetalk/archive/1998.Dec/00000099.htm)
Python runs on BeOS, but I would guess that the Python client (when it is
written) will also use Tk. Porting Tk would probably make lots and lots
of people happy (as well as give you three different
presumably-working clients, magically) if you want to try that.

On the other hand, GTK+ *has* been ported to BeOS (although the current
status of the port isn't quite clear from the gtk web page), so the cabber
client *ought* to build. You'd have to try this to see.

Having said all this --- no, I don't know of anyone writing a
BeOS-specific client yet. Non-cross-platform clients are so passe. ;-)

[actually, I was wrong -- a non-native (X-emulation) port of Tk
*does* exist, according to http://www.faqs.org/ftp/faqs/tcl-faq/part4;
it's at http://www-classic.be.com/beware/Languages/Tcl.html and
        http://www-classic.be.com/beware/Languages/Tk.html
A better port of Tk is probably still needed.]
