Because Jabber is a "new" idea particularly :)
Also, it really works well as an identifier within clients to show when
you or others are online/offline.
I expect the particular "bulb" graphic we use to change and mature a few
more times before 1.0, so don't get to comfortable with any exact one.
After we have a few different characteristic bulb graphcs, we'll show them
off and see what everyone likes.
