This is an EXCELLENT idea!  I've just created a new mailing list
interface at jabber.org to discuss this topic futher:

Please subscribe to the list and migrate these discussions there.

What I'd like to see happen, is as a consensus is drawn on that list,
someone writes up a public reccomendation for Jabber client authors on
various different interface issues, possibly with links to examples,
screenshots, prototypes, etc.  Anyone can feel free to take the lead on
this and on the list, but please try to keep things on topic.
